The iPad mini has always played the role of "little thumb" in the Apple range. This model, certainly more compact and less focused on high-end features than the iPad Pro, nevertheless remains very attractive for those looking for a tablet that is both powerful and easy to carry. Available in Wi-Fi and 5G versions, this new iteration fulfills its role brilliantly, becoming a very pleasant mobile tool to use, both indoors and outdoors (the 5G version is strongly recommended for mobility). What's more, this tablet will be able to support the latest smart features announced by the Cupertino firm.

The fundamentals retained

In terms of design, the Apple iPad mini (2024) retains the compact look of the 6th generation, with an 8.3-inch LCD screen offering a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The resolution of 2,266 x 1,466 pixels, coupled with high brightness, guarantees comfortable use, even outdoors. The camera module remains identical to that of the previous version, with 12 MP front and rear sensors. However, there are a few improvements to note: the Center Stage function allows the front sensor to follow users for video conferences that are always well framed, and Smart HDR support optimizes the rear sensor for scanning documents.

Power under the hood

Under its modest appearance, the iPad Mini (2024) is equipped with the A17 Pro processor, very similar to that of the iPhone 15 Pro, with the exception of the graphics part, which here has 5 cores (compared to 6 for the iPhone). This minimal difference will however have only a negligible impact on graphics performance in most daily uses, whether it is gaming, web browsing, streaming, or even using social networks. In addition, the storage capacity has been doubled compared to the previous version, with 128 GB for the base model, thus offering more space for files and applications.

A smart tablet

The iPad Mini 2024 takes advantage of the smart features of the iOS 18.1 update. Among these innovative options, the Clean Up Tool function allows you to remove unwanted objects from photos, automatic transcription is practical for taking notes, and the redesigned Siri assistant promises a more natural and intuitive use of the device in everyday life. This version will come with iOS 18 preinstalled, but an update to iOS 18.1 will be necessary to take full advantage of these new features.
